Goodreads Synopsis:
It's springtime at St. Vladimir's Academy, and Rose Hathaway is this close to graduation. Since making her first Strigoi kills, Rose hasn't been feeling quite right. She's having dark thoughts, behaving erratically, and worst of all... might be seeing ghosts.

As Rose questions her sanity, new complications arise. Lissa has begun experimenting with her magic once more, their enemy Victor Dashkov might be set free, and Rose's forbidden relationship with Dimitri is starting to heat up again. But when a deadly threat no one saw coming changes their entire world, Rose must put her own life on the line - and choose between the two people she loves most.

My Review:

After the sad ending of Frostbite, Rose and her friends are coping as best as they can.Rose now bares her first Molnija marks which might be a symbol of status, but their earning was bittersweet. As her final months begin winding down the guardians are facing their field training test. This test includes facing weeks of guarding practice of their Moroi classmates while their instructors pretend to be Strigoi.

But Rose's first test attack fails badly when she sees Mason's ghost and freezes mid fight. Now, for the first time in her life, Rose is questioning what it means to be a Dhampir. The guardian standard "They come first" that Rose has come to accept, doesn't have such a great ring to it anymore. Meanwhile, Lissa is getting stronger at her magic, which is causing more side effects to Rose's health. The only way to figure out what is happening to Rose and the meaning of being Shadow Kissed lies with Anna. But where is Anna hiding? Rose has always know that she must give up her life for Lissa, but is she really able to do that!? Being Lissa's guardian means no choices for Rose in any part of her life. Is Rose truly willing to give all that up to be a guardian? But when an unexpected threat emerges over the academy, the students' lives are at risk, especially for Rose. She needs to decided whether to protect her best friend or fulfill a promise to the man she loves.
