Goodreads Synopsis:
When
you can't trust yourself, who can you believe?
Everything
about Anna’s life is a secret. Her father works for the Branch at the helm of
its latest project: monitoring and administering treatments to the four
genetically altered boys in the lab below their farmhouse. There’s Nick, Cas,
Trev . . . and Sam, who’s stolen Anna’s heart. When the Branch decides it’s
time to take the boys, Sam stages an escape, killing the agents sent to
retrieve them.
Anna
is torn between following Sam or staying behind in the safety of her everyday
life. But her father pushes her to flee, making Sam promise to keep her away
from the Branch, at all costs. There’s just one problem. Sam and the boys don’t
remember anything before living in the lab--not even their true identities.
Now
on the run, Anna soon discovers that she and Sam are connected in more ways
than either of them expected. And if they’re both going to survive, they must
piece together the clues of their past before the Branch catches up to them and
steals it all away.
My Review:
My reaction to reading the summary of this book:
Four years
ago, Anna discovered a secret in her basement...
Four Boys.
Every teenage girl’s dream, right?
Except these boys are genetically Altered and suffering from amnesia.

Altered
is one of those where you get addicted and you finish the entire book in one
sitting. I kid you not! This book was so fast paced and energetic that I felt
like I was being chased instead of the characters. It's action filled with lots
of secrets and romance. So basically, my kind of book! Okay here's how it goes
down. Three modified humans have escaped their prison and they bring Anna with
them. Anna's father works for the "bad guys" who want the boys back.
And they will do anything to get them. So now all four are on the run and as
they get closer to figuring out what the heck is going on, they keep finding
more clues.
In
the four years Anna has come to know each of the boys pretty well. There is
Nick, who, out of all the boys scares Anna the most. There is Cas, who has a
sharp tongue, a never ending love for
food, and is always up for a laugh. Then there's Trev, who has a unique ability
to memorize quotes and spit them out like a machine at any given moment. And
lastly, there's Sam. ( Excuse me while I squeal and jump up and down like a
little girl!) He is quiet, intense, sweet, and has a gigantic tree tattoo on
his back. Oh he's also the guy who Anna has been harboring a little (huge)
crush on.
From
the beginning, this book was filled with kickass action, and OH. MY. GOD.
moments. There are so many twists and turns that I felt like my brain was a
pretzel. The characters are so beautifully written, it makes you wish they were
real. The first time the characters were introduced I immediately fell in love
with them. Each character is strong and as the story line gets intense, the
characters grow. There is just so much that goes on in this book. I could not
put it down until I'd consumed every single detail on every single page. Then I
was left wanting book two and mentally kicking myself for starting a trilogy
even when I knew book two hasn't been out yet. *face-palm*
