Goodreads Synopsis:
Here we go again …
Just when it seems
life at Mythos Academy can’t get any more dangerous,
the Reapers of Chaos manage to prove me wrong. It was just a typical night at
the Library of Antiquities — until a Reaper tried to poison me. The good news
is I’m still alive and kicking. The bad news is the Reaper poisoned someone
else instead.
As Nike’s Champion,
everyone expects me to lead the charge against the Reapers, even though I’m
still hurting over what happened with Spartan warrior Logan Quinn. I’ve got to
get my hands on the antidote fast — otherwise, an innocent person will die. But
the only known cure is hidden in some creepy ruins — and the Reapers are sure
to be waiting for me there.
My Review:
Gwen has finally started to come into her own. All of her
hard work, practice and training is finally paying off. She can now slay
Reapers, fight them, and protect her family and friends against the Chaos War.
Gwen is finally proving herself to be worthy of being called Nike's Champion.
We learn more about Gwen's dad's side of the family, we meet Rory, who gives Logan a run for his
money, and we get more insight on Nike and Gwen's mom.
Plot, wise, this book has stepped it up a notch. There
are many things going on at the same time. Gwen finally, gets face-to-face with
the Reaper Girl and they have a quick, yet bloody showdown. When the reaper
girl tried to poison Gwen, her gypsy powers warned her to not drink anything
from anyone that day. By doing this, someone else accidently drank the poison.
Gwen feeling guilty and miserable sets out to find a flower, something
ambrosia, so that Metis can make an antidote. The search leads her and her
friends to another branch owned by Mythos and eventually to the Eir ruins. So
what's the problem? The reapers know they will be there and they will be
waiting for Gwen and her friends to arrive. The hard part is knowing they have
to go even when their lives are at risk. But Gwen will do anything in her power to save innocent lives even if it means risking her own.
