Goodreads Synopsis:
It’s been three months since Amy was unplugged. The life she
always knew is over. Everywhere she looks, she sees the walls of the spaceship Godspeed.
But there may be hope: Elder has assumed leadership of the ship. He's finally
free to act on his vision—no more Phydus, no more lies.
But when Elder learns shocking news about the ship, he and Amy race to discover
the truth behind life on Godspeed. They must work together to unlock a
mystery that was set in motion hundreds of years earlier. Their success—or
failure—will determine the fate of the 2,298 passengers aboardGodspeed. But
with each step, the journey becomes more perilous, the ship more chaotic, and
the love between them more impossible to fight.
Beth Revis catapulted readers into the far reaches of space with her New
York Times bestselling debut, Across the Universe. In A Million
Suns, Beth deepens the mystery with action, suspense, romance, and deep
philosophical questions. And this time it all builds to one mind-bending
conclusion: They have to get off this ship
My Review:
If you've read Across the Universe,
then you're familiar with its very intense and chilling first chapter. It
gripped the readers attention and set a very ominous tone for the entire book. While
I enjoyed reading Across the Universe, for me the highest point of satisfaction
was reading Amy's point of view. It was fascinating to read an outsiders take
on Godspeed and its people. Revis left the characters and Godspeed in something
of a stagger, with many unanswered questions.
And answer she does. The beginning immediately
addressed some issues and clarified the mysteries. Revis took a more delicate
approach in this book, but she was still able to create a very tense, menacing
and unsettling tone. Amy and Elder have united as a team to take down Eldest
and claim his position as the new leader of Godspeed--now a Phydus-free
population. Amy has been trying to process being assaulted, her unexplained
feelings towards Elder (given his admission that he unfroze her) and the truth
about Godspeed's engine. Among all these
life-altering mysterious finally being reveal, Amy must decide if she wants her
parents to be unfrozen and what the consequences of doing that might be. Amy
and Elder must trust each other in order for their plans to work but there are
some new secrets that are about to be revealed that might just ruin their new
found relationship.
