Goodread Synopsis:
For sixteen-year-old FALLON BRAEDEN being on
the run had been the easiest part of her life. Packing up and crossing whole
cities on a split second decision had been tedious, having no friends and being
alone had been painful, but being caught by the truth was something she learned
too late was worse.
Fallon is a weapon.
She was created to destroy. Keeping her alive, keeping her safe is all Isaiah
knows. It’s all that matters, because Fallon is his. She belongs to him. She is
a part of his body, his soul, his heart. He will do anything, kill anyone to
keep her, even if it means sacrificing himself.
But can Fallon
believe the stranger on the motorcycle claiming he was there to die for her?
How do you trust when you have no one but the memories of a girl you’ve never
met and a tall, dark, gorgeous boy that you feel pulsing deep in your soul?
What do you do when you’ve been lied to your whole life? When you’re told
you’re normal even though nothing about you is normal? Fallon must learn
quickly just what she is before the evil chasing her finally gets what it
wants… her blood.
The world depends
on her not falling in love, not giving in. But what happens when the temptation
becomes too great, when falling is her only option? Can she live knowing the
world will burn because his touch is the only thing keeping her alive?
Touch Passion.
Touch Power. Touch Smoke!
My Review:
Fallon Braeden and her mother have been on
the road for what seems like her entire life. Traveling from one place to
another is difficult enough, but suddenly moving and leaving everything behind
is even more difficult for Fallon. Especially, when her mother refuses to tell
Fallon why they are leaving everything behind to go to another town. After
several unexpected 'dropping everything and leaving in the middle of the night'
cases Fallon has had enough. She has put her foot down and demands her mother
answer her questions. But when her mother starts acting extremely scared and
out running a mysterious guy on a bike off the road, Fallon knows something's
up. If only her mother would tell her what?
As
the bad guys catch up to them, Fallon and her mother are in more danger because
the only thing the bad guys want is Fallon. But when the mysterious guy on the
bike saves them, Fallon trusts this new comer a lot more than her mother. He is
willing to tell Fallon everything and the only thing she would have to do is go
with him. This newcomer, Isaiah, has secrets
of his own but he is willing to help Fallon. What does he want with her?
And why is he so hell bent on keeping her save? Fallon has to quickly decide
who to trust because if she doesn't more people will come looking for her.
Touching Smoke kept me on the edge
of my seat the entire time. I loved the idea of what Isaiah and Fallon were and
the author executed this idea wonderfully. The writing style was imaginative
and the characters were well developed. Isaiah was sexy, smoking hot, and
amazing. He was loyal to the core, protecting Fallon from every danger that
they faced. However, I had some issues with Fallon. Most authors don't realize
this but making the main character a whiney, annoying, half-brained brat is not
a great idea. I didn't like Fallon's character at all. Sure she had her strong
moments, but at times I wanted to hit her. Overall, I think this idea was very
well thought out. I loved how the action kept me on my toes and the romance was
swoon worthy. Well technically Isaiah was swoon worthy. Anyways, a good start
to the new series and hopefully the next book is even better!
